Milburn Stone was born in Burrton, Kansas, to Herbert Stone and Laura Belfield. Milburn graduated from Burrton High School, where he was active in the drama club. Milburn turned down his congressional appointment to the United States Naval Academy to become an actor with Stock Theatre.
