What happened to Michael Thomas Berthold?
Michael was a vibrant young man in his career as an architect and associate professor. In 2002, he was diagnosed with stage-four brain cancer, glioblastoma multiform. He first had a surgical procedure to remove the tumour, which grew again after a while.
This caused him to undergo chemotherapy. The chemotherapy did not yield any positive results; the tumour kept growing rapidly every seven days. Michael used to do all his architectural drawings before the diagnosis, but the tumour got worse and prevented him from doing any good drawings.
The university also withdrew his salary because he could not go to teach. On January 23, 2002, he died due to the severe development of brain cancer. He died in his Sea Cliff, Nassau County, New York home. He was 51 years old.
Michael was succeeded by his wife, Laura Campbell and two daughters, Kate McKinnon and Emily Lynne.
