Charlotte Shanks’, ex-husband, American actor Thomas Roy Skerritt, born August 25, 1933, have starred in over 200 television episodes and over 40 motion pictures since 1962. He is best known for his roles in the movies M*A*S*H, Alien, The Dead Zone, Top Gun, A River Runs Through It, Poltergeist III, and Up in Smoke, as well as the television series Picket Fences and Cheers. 

One of the numerous nominations and honors Thomas Skerritt has gotten was the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1993 for Picket Fences. Thomas Skerritt was born in Detroit, Michigan. He is the youngest of three children. Skerritt, a 1951 graduate of Detroit’s Mackenzie High School, attended Wayne State University and the University of California, Los Angeles.

Shortly after graduating from high school, Thomas Skerritt enlisted in the US Air Force as a classification specialist and completed a four-year tour of duty. He spent most of his time in service at Bergstrom Field in Austin, Texas.
