As per information given by Jennifer in a 2017 interview, the club was founded by her two elder brothers and their friend. The club, Area, which is now defunct, was active and famous between 1983 and 1987. Jennifer worked at the club’s art department. Her duty was to find and use various artworks in decorating the club.

Jennifer Goode first met Jean-Michel at Area in 1984. Jean had come to the nightclub with a couple of his friends. His charisma and handsomeness attracted Jennifer in what she called “love at first sight.” Jennifer said: “I definitely know why I was attracted to him. He was really charismatic and handsome and smart and funny, and he took me on trips, and it was really a lot of fun. Why he was attracted to me, I never asked. I don’t know.”

A few days after meeting at the club, the duo started dating. They dated for three years, from 1984 to 1987. The relationship ended because of Jean’s frequent use of drugs, which he introduced Jennifer to. Jennifer became addicted to drugs and said the only way to end her drug use was to end her relationship with Jean.
